Challenge
Maple Leaf Gardens, recognized as a National Historic Site
of Canada, was originally built as the home of the Toronto
Maple Leafs. It’s where the team won their 11 Stanley Cups,
and also became an essential stop for musical icons, political
leaders, and several sporting events. The 25-year-old PVC
single-ply membrane covering the structure’s iconic dome
had reached the end of its service life, and the gravel-
surfaced, 4-ply built-up system on adjacent flat areas was
also due for replacement. The building owners were seeking
a solution that would match the roof’s original aesthetics and
also help meet their environmental objectives.
Solution
Siplast provided a robust SBS-modified bitumen roofing system that helped meet the building owners’ performance, longevity, and environmental goals:

The torch-applied, two-ply Paradiene® 20/30 SBS- modified bitumen roofing system was selected for its proven performance and to help preserve the structure’s landmark dome. - Solution to help support sustainability
To help meet the building’s environmental needs, a Siplast Eco-Activ® cap sheet with Noxite® granules was specified—to help neutralize nitrogen oxides (NOx) and help contribute to cleaner air across Toronto. - A roof designed to last
The Paradiene® 20/30 system helped protect the landmark structure and maintain its original aesthetics, while meeting modern performance standards.
The completed roof at Maple Leaf Gardens honors the building’s architectural heritage while introducing modern materials that support longevity and sustainability—a fitting update for one of Toronto’s most recognizable rooftops.
